“The Model Boat Builder”
Original signed etching. Dated 1974 No 2/25 Final State in pencil
38″ x 30″
Smith, 1920-1999, was born in Lowestoft, Suffolk in 1920 to a fishing family. During the 2nd World War he was commissioned to sketch while in the service of the RAF. After the war he studied at the Slade and later became an art teacher which included teaching at The Chelsea School of Art and in 1951 he was elected to the Royal Society of Painter-Etchers and Engravers (RE).
This is numbered 2 of an edition of 25 and is a clean impression and in very good condition. Mounted in conservation grade board. This is an unusually large etching and very powerful and impressive. Smith is a little documented artist and I believe much underrated.
