Anderson was a painter and engraver and won the British Inst of Engraving Scholarship in 1909. He was elected to membership of the Royal Soc of Painter-Etchers and Engravers (RE) in 1923 and the Royal Academy (RA) in 1941.
He was recognised principally for a series of highly detailed engravings of traditional British life and crafts of which this is one. The Wayfarer was published in 1941 and exhibited at the Royal Academy in the same year.
